Welcoming Team

The oldest and one of the most important lay ministries in the church. We like to think our churches are a place where people feel comfortable and welcome, of course, but our welcomers have an especially crucial role to play.

Who are they?

Welcomers are a group of people who volunteer their time before Mass to greet all those arriving. As the first person anyone visiting the church will meet, this is a vital first contact for many and can make the difference to a decision to stay or come again. Any parishioner can join in this important ministry; all that is required is a friendly manner and a warm, welcoming smile. No special training needed!

What do they do?

They gather in the parish room and welcome parishioners and visitors as they enter the church, handing out Mass books, hymn books, newsletters etc. They can also help pointing things out or making introductions.
